Photographing restaurants is kinda my thing – everything from the smallest details to sweeping panoramic interiors, pouring fancy cocktails to elegantly styled dishes. The Sea by Alexander’s Steakhouse in Palo Alto needed some new photos showing off their banquet / private dining space, so we ended up shooting that and a lot more! Here’s a few of my faves…
I shot some pasta dishes at five restaurants around the Bay Area in one day – needless to say my family and I ate well for a few days... I love the unique presentation at each location. Food photography is challenging, but highly rewarding (and tasty!). Enjoy a few of my faves from my "pasta shoot day" below:
The Executive Chef in the about-to-open Hotel Nia restaurant in Menlo Park is truly a visionary. I only photographed a few of the middle-eastern-inspired dishes, but the color, texture and overall presentation is truly impressive. I hope to return soon to photograph more of his edible artwork! Here's a few of my faves:
Alioto's is the oldest restaurant in San Francisco continually operated by its founding family (almost 100 years). They've got a ton of history in what is now Fisherman's Wharf, and are arguably the bedrock of San Francisco's purveyors of freshly-prepared seafood. Alioto's is expanding / creating a new brand with its own unique signature items and presentation. The goal of this photo shoot was to create a library of images to help promote the new brand on social media and other online outlets. Here's a selection of photos from the shoot, enjoy!
I shot a few Bay Area restaurants for a magazine article about Hawaiian food & poke dishes. Here's a few photos from each restaurant. Keep in mind these are quick shoots, 15 to 30 minutes max. I think food looks best when it's shot as soon as it exits the kitchen!
The company that did the recessed lighting for Din Tai Fung in San Jose hired me to take some architectural interior photos of the restaurant. The manager was gracious enough to have his staff quickly clean and reset the space immediately after close so we could capture these panoramic interiors without people in them. Here's my favorites from the late-night session:
I originally shot some awesome architectural interiors at Rootstock Wine Bar, but they have more than just drinks on the menu – they've got some fabulous flatbreads, meat and cheese platters, salads and other yummy goodness. I haven't had a chance to go through all the photos yet, but here's a sneak peek of what they have to offer. Check them out in the new Main St. Cupertino shopping center and tell them GoodEye sent ya!
Exterior photo of the front entrance to MacArthur Park restaurant in Palo Alto, taken about 15 minutes after sunset in October.
Rangoon Ruby has multiple locations in the Bay Area, but these photos of their delicious Burmese cuisine were taken as they came out of the kitchen at the Burlingame location. Every dish looked delicious and piping hot, straight from the talented chef working a couple dozen feet away from my food lighting setup. Enjoy the photos!
Rootstock Wine Bar just added to their Los Gatos location by opening a stunning new property in Cupertino off Stevens Creek Blvd. I took some interior and exterior twilight architectural photos for the company to show off the design of the business. Most of the photos are in my signature panoramic-style – and no, there's no HDR imagery here! I haven't tried the food or wine yet, perhaps in an upcoming shoot...
This was a dual restaurant shoot – with the goals to shoot some of Cafe Cruz's more popular dishes as well as get some lifestyle portraits of some couples enjoying the nighttime ambience indoors near the fireplace and outdoors on the patio – by another fireplace and a fire pit. Lots of good stuff, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the Santa Cruz area! Enjoy a few photos below:
These are some of the best photos from a multi-day photo shoot at the fine restaurant MacArthur Park in Palo Alto. We had an aggressive list of objectives for the photography – to be used for marketing (print and web), advertising and general promotion. We shot some great BBQ food dishes (their specialty) – both by themselves and with people/hands. We also shot lifestyle portraits of customers enjoying themselves – at the bar and at the dining tables. I'll describe the photos in more detail below – enjoy!
